Love me too…
I prayed a prayer very dear to my heart and I want to share it. But before I let you in on what the prayer is, I want to share something.
God loves us
God loves me
This is true and so are many other things about the this that make it true.
God loves us unconditionally which means that His love for us is not predicated on anything we have done or will do. How much He loves us does not gain momentum neither does it lose it. We can count on it, bank on it, rely on it anytime and in any season. This is true and will remain true because the capacity sustaining this ability to love is on the capacity of God and God is capacity-full lol, yes I know that’s not an English word.
God is limitless and that is why His love is also limitless. This also means we can take His love for granted and we can spend time criticizing it because, consciously or not, we know it is not going anywhere.
But the real kick is that our love for God is not as unconditional all the time as we want. Because our love for God is based on our ability to lean on Gods ability, our love for God has its highs and lows. God knew this and this is why the Love of God is shared abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. God loves us and His love has been given to us to increase our capacity to Love Him with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength.
We have seen from Jesus that the God kind of love is a love that bears fruits and these fruits should be visible.
Love gives, Love does not hoard.
Love does not give up on the object of Love, it does not insist on its own way.
Love communicates, Love spends time with the object of Love. Love does not keep a record of wrong but rejoices in the truth.
Here then was my prayer:
Lord help me, so my love for you does not wane or grow cold.
Help me lord not to take your love for granted and just be content with loving you abstractly.
Let my love for you bear fruit, bear visible fruits.
Let me show my love for you by showing up to spend time with you.
Let me show my love for you by spending time talking with you.
Let me love you enough to spend time learning about you.
Let me love you enough to talk about you.
Let me love you enough to trust your plans for me.
Help me not to take your love for granted!
Amen!
